Searching For Ty Tryon

THE ORLANDO SENTINEL has a good profile on whats going on with Ty Tryon currently. Sounds like his heads in the right place, its just a matter of if can get his game back where it needs to be.
They also have a breakdown of the endorsements he received when he first turned pro.

HERE IS AN ARTICLE FROM March of 2002 about David Leadbetter analyzing Ty Tryon's swing.
Ty's swing is still a work in progress. His good hand-eye coordination lets him get his hands and the clubface into a good position at impact, with a lot of clubhead speed. The league he's getting into now, he needs fewer compensations, simpler technique. For example, like a lot of youngsters, when he was little, he tried to generate power with a lot of leg movement. You can see his left heel still comes off the ground sometimes at impact. Now we're trying to stabilize his lower body.

GOLFWEEK has a new recent photo of Tryon. I'm glad to see he's still sporting a Callaway hat - it would have been easy for them to drop him over the past few years.

TY MISSED OUT ON a chance to qualify for the US Open after his group was penalized a stroke for slow play. He missed a playoff by 1 shot and is the 2nd alternate.

AFTER 3 ROUNDS, Tryon stands in T41st place at 2 under par with rounds of 67-69-72. Hopefully he can have a good final round to climb back inside the top 20 and build on the good finish.

TY is playing on the Nationwide Tour this week at the Fort Smith Classic in Arkansas. He shot an opening round 3-under 67 and ended the day tied for 10th place.
Tryon actually Monday qualified for this event and Steve Elling thinks he may be on his way back.
After some decidedly unproductive years, Tryon moved back to his native Orlando, Fla., a few months back and renewed ties with former trainer David Herman, who has worked with major championship winners Trevor Immelman, Suzann Pettersen, Se Ri Pak and Ernie Els over the years.
Herman said that Tryon, after being lost in the woods for a while, is serious about doing everything he can to rebuild his game and reputation.
"He's got his mindset back," Herman said Wednesday. "He's hungry again. When he talks about his career, he sounds really good."

TRYON PLAYED AT THE Ocala Open this past week, and despite a decent first couple days (5 under), he had a bad final round to finish 16th in 57th place (the Ocala Open website incorrectly calculated his position due to the many ties above him - thanks Ken).

TRYON STILL MAKING NEWS, but I'm not sure a 4th place pro-am finish in the Ocala Open is the news coverage he thought he'd be generating at this point in his career.

TY SURE GETS ALOT of press coverage for a guy who has (thus far) failed as a golfer. The Palm Beach Post's most recent is Aiming for another shot.
On the Gateway Tour this year, Tryon has made three of 21 cuts since January, none since February. A 69 Tuesday matched his best round of the year but still left him well off the cut line.
"I'm not playing too good," Tryon said, "not getting good results. But I'm getting better. I'm just struggling with my putter and making big numbers every round.
"I'll get back (to the PGA Tour) eventually. I know I will. If it's not this year, it'll be next year. I definitely have a lot more stability in my life now. I feel better about it in general, just being a pro golfer."
His quotes here are good news. Everything is pretty upbeat and he doesn't sound like a guy ready to quit.
A former student at the David Leadbetter Academy, Tryon now goes it alone, without a swing coach. He's currently inspired by Ben Hogan's book, Five Lessons. "I love it," he said.

IS TAD FUJIKAWA repeating Ty Tryon's mistake by turning pro at age 16? This kid has less game than Tryon had at the time he turned pro - which means this is either another disaster waiting to happen, or it'll work out just fine since its a very different situation.

STAGE 2 OF Q-SCHOOL SURE ended ugly for Ty this year. He finishes the week with rounds of 77-74-76-78 for a +17 total. He needed -10 to advance to the next round.
This poor finish means that Ty will likely continue to play in obscurity overseas, or perhaps he'll take a crack at the Canadian Tour.

NOT LOOKING SO GOOD for Ty in the 2nd stage of the Q-School. Thru 2 days, he's at 7-over, in last place, and 12 shots away from advancing to the next stage.
A 3rd round 76 drops Ty further back - 18 shots off of the pace needed to advance.

THANKS TO HUEY FOR SENDING IN this Korean article about Tryon playing on the Asian Tour (its in English). The article was written back in May when Ty played in the same event as Michelle Wie.
Tryon is now missing more than his share of fairways and greens, not to mention cuts. Last week, he shot 82-74, missing the cut by 12 strokes - and 17 shots behind Wie. More telling was his general lackadaisical attitude. In the first round, on the par-5 third hole, Tryon pulled his tee shot, and it landed among rocks. He just shrugged, and told his fiance not to worry. He went on to bogey the hole. That could have been the sign that either he had his emotions under control or, quite simply, he didn't care.

CONTINUED high scores from Ty as he struggles in Korea. In the SBS Meritz Solmoro Open he shot 70-76-86-79. He made the cut, but finished 2nd to last.
In the Pocari Enerzen Open , he missed the cut, shooting 72-82.
Similar result in the SBS Kumho Asiana Open, with a 77-81 to miss the cut again.

TRYON FINALLY HAS A BIO page up at the Korean PGA Tour website. You can see it here. But as Mike pointed out in the comments to a previous entry, brace yourself for Ty's bio picture.
I'm not quite sure whats going on with his long hair and the porn star mustache. He kind of looks like the main character in the CBS tv show Numb3rs.
Also of note, is that the Korean PGA Tour apparently thinks its important that we all know as much about their players as possible - how else to explain why they list Blood Type as one of the bio items.
